Fort Pillow State Historic Park

Fort Pillow State Historic Park Osceola is located in western Tennessee, about 25 miles southwest of Cleveland. The park consists of a visitor center, a reconstructed fort and artillery batteries, exhibits on the history of the fort and battle, and a nature trail. The fort was built in 1810 by General James Wilkinson as part of his efforts to control the Native American tribes in the area. Confederate forces under General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked the fort, which was defended by only a handful of soldiers. The Confederates were eventually able to take the fort and massacre the entire garrison. The park is open from April through October and features guided tours of the fort every day.
